It is said that the greatest gift is to be born as a human. We all know that every human life is precious, sacred and has the potential to reach the stars. All of this dreaming and realization is not possible without a healthy body, mind and soul. We believe these ailments are preventable. We also believe that with education, awareness and life style modifications we could reverse this negative trend. We are committed to achieving this goal by reaching out to teens by raising awareness of the issue, provide accurate information to deal with it, offer alternative healthy life style choices, and give opportunities to interact with experts to find ways to avoid becoming a statistic.
What you eat and drink, how you live, where you work . . . all these factors can affect your risk for cancer.
- Behaviors such as tobacco use, poor eating habits, and physical inactivity greatly increase a child’s risk of getting cancer in adulthood.
- These and other harmful habits are often well established by the age of 13 years.
- Almost two-thirds of cancers could be prevented if these behaviors were never started.
The information and skills needed to make healthy decisions are learned during childhood and adolescence. Schools have a critical role to play in health education and can reinforce learning that takes place at home and in the community. It's far easier to establish and maintain healthy habits learned early in life than to change unhealthy habits during adulthood.
So Teens Of Kentucky wants to address
- Quality health education in the classroom
- Healthy food choices
- Regular physical education that promotes lifelong fitness through regular physical activity.
- Policies that prohibit tobacco use by students
Preventing Cancer in our lifetime is possible if you and I work and walk together for this cause.
At the end of the school year,Teens of Kentucky hosts annual “Let’s Kick Cancer Walk”,by partnering with corporate sponsors so every school student walks free at the walk. The school student is asked to bring atleast one or more paid participant to the walk.In this way schools can effectively double the impact of their support.
Participation by schools and corporate sponsors are integral to the success of Teens of Kentucky.
